It is important to understand why you should hire a buyer agent. First, our buyers don’t typically pay us anything! In DC, Virginia and Maryland, the seller pays ALL agent commissions. Advocacy and Representation
Hire a buyer agent so you have your own advocate and representative in the transaction. An agent has specific duties and responsibilities governed by the local real estate commission that they are required to fulfill. If you are working with an agent where you don’t have an official agreement, then they are not required to perform all these activities and may not be looking after your best interest. We usually tell folks to interview at least three agents and feel them out. See if it’s a person with whom you mesh and would like to work.
